Faculty & Research

Inspiring excellence. Driving change.

The lifeblood of a business school is its faculty, and at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, our faculty is inspiring, supportive and world-class.

The combined intellectual capital of our 150 full-time and 50 part-time faculty is geared to the forces that are transforming the global economy and business, and dedicated to helping our students understand and adapt to change.

That requires knowing how to find, organize, understand, apply and share knowledge and data. It depends on the know-how to harness the power of technology, and to use it to solve problems. It means thinking systemically to manage complex challenges. And it demands the ability to inspire and lead people and organizations.

Our faculty is attuned to a marketplace that values innovation, entrepreneurialism, analytical thinking and hard work. Their teaching and research equip our students with the wisdom of business scholarship rooted in the experiential lessons of the marketplace.

Our faculty members demand intellectual rigor and stimulate a determination to succeed. They are plugged into the business, government and global networks of our nation's capital. And they are committed to building an academic community that is deeply supportive of learning and collaboration.

The marketplace recognizes value: The Smith School ranked No. 4 in "Accademic excellence and business research" in the world in a 2014 CEOWORLD Magazine survey, and No. 23 in faculty research in a 2016 Financial Times survey.
